Million Trees NYC

Million Trees NYC

MillionTreesNYC is an organization that aims to create a greener New York City by planting one million trees across all five boroughs in the span of a decade. In such a densely populated area, it seemed pretty obvious that these poor oxygen and shade-producing city employees have been overworked for way too long. And what do overworked employees do? Go on strike!

Staged protest

The campaign will kick off with a staged tree protest in which picket signs are placed next to trees all over the city. All signs will have the campaign URL and a QR code directing smart phone users to the site.

Mobile App

MillionTreesNYC have several ways for New Yorkers to help meet the demands of the protesting trees. Unfortunately, many are unaware of how they can help out and this mobile app helps to identify/simplify these opportunities.

Scabby the Rat

This inflatable rodent makes an appearance during union disputes to help create awareness. In order to highlight the plight of the trees, Scabby will be erected in highly trafficked areas such as Times Square with the words "Help NYC trees meet the demands of the city. Dig in at SupportNYCTrees.org."

Job postings

To recruit help and drive traffic to the campaign site, job listings will be posted on popular job search sites and as tear-away flyers throughout the city. Each posting will read like an actual job to entice users to click through to the site where they can learn more about the campaign.

Subway poles

The poles inside subway cars will be converted to shovels to help remind people that picking up a shovel is an easy way to support this cause. At the base of each shovel is a plot of soil with the line “Help NYC trees meet the demands of the city. Dig in at SupportNYCTrees.org”
